Juice Fast For A Healthy Self

By Alfred Anderson

A balanced diet forms one of the top priorities for all those who want to stay fit and healthy. A diet plan rich in fruit juices is not only healthy but also helps one to stay in shape. A detox diet is perhaps one of the most effective diet plans that have a range of benefits associated with it. This dietary regimen involves a change in the consumption pattern of the person who follows the detoxification process. The manifold benefits include weight loss, better health, more energy, stronger immune system and better digestion.

Home Remedies For Better Health

Detox diets plans are rich in fruits. Fruit juice fasting is a popular detox diet regime. However the term "juice fast" does not imply that one has to stay without food or water. In this case, the diet comprises mainly of fruit juices. Since it is easy to digest fruit juices, the digestive organs get some time to rest and work optimally after a period of time. A person on a juice fast can have fruit juices as and when required.

Some of you might wonder whether little intake of solid foods might make a person weak during juice fasting. Juice fasting perhaps improves the energy level of a person. The process of digestion consumes approximately 25% to 30% of the body's entire energy. Since fruit juices are easier to digest, it leads to less energy being utilized. In turn, this enhances a person's mental state and facilitates creative and productive thinking.

One should also consider the duration of a juice fasting program. A person can juice fast four to five days a month or can follow the regime just once a week. Since juice fasting is considered a healing solution, many people continue it for a month or two to get relief from pain, depression, arthritis, autoimmune diseases and other infections as well. For instance, orange juice is rich in vitamin C and prune juice improves digestion. A juice fasting plan can never be complete without watermelon juice, which is rich in vitamin C, A, B6, B1, magnesium and potassium. Its low calorie count makes it a must have.

Periodical fresh fruit juice fasting not only makes you healthy and good-looking but also helps you to think well. A good combination of fruits such as watermelon and orange makes it a perfect detox diet plan.

Chinese Herbalism and Chinese Herbal Medicine

By Robin Brain

The Chinese herbal tradition is believed to date back some 4,000 years to the Emperor Shen Nong (or Chien Nung). He is said to have described over: 300 medicinal plants and their uses in a book called the Pen Tsao. Although versions of several ancient pharmacopoeia still exist today, the main surviving text on herbalism is the book by the physician Li Shih-chen describing almost 2,000 herbs and 10,000 herbal remedies, and written in the 16th century.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

As well as the herbalism of trained physicians, there is also a folk tradition of herbal medicine in China. Many families had their own remedies, which were passed from generation to generation.

Traditional medicine came under question in the 20th century, but was reinstated under the communist regime. The barefoot doctors in the country districts were skilled in administering herbal prescriptions, the ingredients of which they had usually gathered and prepared themselves. Today, Chinese herbalism is very much an orthodox form of therapy and preventive treatment in China, and it is increasingly practiced in the West.

The so-called raw ingredients of herbal preparations are usually dried materials. They are often prescribed as "soups," decoctions, or teas but may be taken in their raw form or processed into pills, powders, ointments, liquid tonics, or teas. They are classified according to their properties, such as "warming" and "cooling," and by their taste. The majority are of plant origin but a few are derived from minerals or from animal sources.

Usually the herbs are combined into formulas that are often adapted to suit changing circumstances as the client progresses. The careful adjustment of the remedy to suit the individual client is characteristic of Chinese medicine. Chinese herbalism can be used for a wide range of ailments, including asthma, skin diseases, menstrual problems, digestive disturbances, and migraine, and is effective when used on its own or in conjunction with another therapy such as acupuncture.

Ginseng - Asia's Solution To Longevity

By Steven Seferi

Used by the Chinese for thousands of years, Ginseng has long been believed to increase longevity and the quality of a persons life. Funnily enough, it is derived from the Greek work Panax, which means panacea, or all healing. Let's discuss ginseng and its medicinal qualities.

Home Remedies For Better Health

One of the most revered herbs in the Asian hemisphere, it has gained much popularity in promoting longevity and preventing such conditions as: depression, diabetes, fatigue, inflammation, nausea, tumors, pulmonary problems, vomiting, anxiety, stress, and ulcers. This is one fantastic herb! It has also been used in the treatment of cancer, anemia, insomnia, shock, radiation, environmental toxins, and chronic illness. It stimulates the appetite as well as energy; it eases childbirth. What is so fascinating about this herb is that is contains anti-aging properties, like antioxidants.

Moreover, it's effect on the immune system has been studied for it's efficacy in preventing colds, flu, and some forms of cancer. Recent studies have determined that ginseng decreases blood levels of both sugar and cholesterol and might help in the treatment of Type II diabetes. Other studies reveal that a combination of ginseng and ginkgo biloba will increase memory. Because the components in ginseng promote the growth of blood vessels, this could be helpful in treating injuries.

Also, the scope of effects from the use of ginseng reveals it has an influence on the central nervous system, cellular aging, internal organs, metabolism, blood pressure, and appears to relieve stress. Specific to stress reduction, which is caused by the adrenal glands secreting hormones used to ward off both physical and emotional stress, it is understood that ginseng is responsible for alleviating such stress. Most importantly, it has been reported to prolong survival time during cardiac arrests. Not only does it prevent diseases including cancer, diabetes, hypertension and impotence, but it helps in their treatment as well.

It is also one of the few herbs that is known to help in the treatment of CFS. While chronic fatigue syndrome has puzzled physicians for decades, there is no recognized treatment for the overwhelming fatigue that typifies this condition. However, those suffering from this condition often report an improvement in their symptoms after taking regular ginseng supplements.

Ginseng is one of the most popular of all herbal supplements, and one of the most commercially produced. It is important, therefore, for those shopping for a ginseng supplement to choose one made with the highest quality ingredients. It is also important to look for a ginseng supplement which has been processed as little as possible, as excessive processing is thought to lower the effectiveness of the ginseng herb.

The Advantages of Herbal Medicine

By Jonathan Jenkins

Herbal medicine is becoming ever more popular in today's world as people seek out natural remedies. If you look around the market is flooded with products claiming to be natural and herbal.

Home Remedies For Better Health
Photo: http://www.passdt.com/

It may be puzzling to some as to how or why this sudden want or need for these products started. Maybe its because we are becoming a nation ever more conscious of our health and well being or perhaps it's a media driven desire to be more like the glamorous celebrities who endorse such items. However herbal remedies and natural treatments themselves are not a new thing, in fact they date back many millions of years.

The earliest accounts of the use of these types of remedies date back to 2800BC from China. Archaeology from early civilisations has shown the use of plants in burials and ceremonies.

Herbal medicines have fallen in and out of favour with man throughout the ages. However they have continued to develop and are once again gaining popularity in today's world, particularly as there are growing concerns about the safety and side effects of pharmaceutical drugs. In light of this, herbal remedies are offering a safe and natural alternative for many ailments.

Below are some advantages of natural and herbal medicines.

Costs.

Herbal treatments cost much less than their prescription counterparts. They're also more convenient as they can be purchased over the counter from any health food store without the need for a prescription. Remember though, it is important to check with your doctor before taking any type of medication as natural does not always mean safe and many natural substances can often be dangerous.

Herbal medication is not categorized as drugs, they are considered as food, this is because they are natural and can be marketed as dietary supplements without the need for a prescription. Supplements are not subjected to the same strict scientific inspection as prescription medication. Also prescription drugs, unlike herbal remedies do not have to be tested in order to prove they work and are safe before being marketed.

Herbal medicines may not be pure and it's possible they may contain pollen or other such contaminates which could induce sickness. Currently standardized manufacturing and testing is much needed in the herbal industry.

Strength and Effectiveness.

People have many and varied reasons for seeking out alternative remedies but often include dissatisfaction with the more traditional healthcare treatments. It is worth remembering though that the benefits and effectiveness of alternative medicine is often individual to the patient concerned.

The strength of the remedy may also vary and has many factors including the variation or strain of the plant or herb used, the growing methods, how it is harvested, the way it has been preserved and the exposure to light, air and moisture during its growth.

How to Make Your Own Herbal Tea

By Vanessa A. Doctor

Herbal teas not only provide you with a sense of relief during long hectic days, they also come in handy for various ailments like cough and colds. There are many different herbs to choose from when making tea. With a little bit of your own personal touch, you can successfully rest back and enjoy a cup or two any time of the day.

Herbal Medicines And Plant Facts Used For Everyday Home Cures.

Different Herbs

Depending on the effect that you want, there are many types of herbs available. If you're looking for something mild and relaxing, you may want to pick chamomile. Eucalyptus, licorice and ginger have soothing effects that are very helpful if you're experiencing respiratory problems or a cold. If you want something that lifts up your mood, try using thyme, spearmint, lavender or cinnamon.

You may also try mixing more than one herb at a time. Try exploring the different tastes and effects. These herbs are good for your health since they have antioxidant properties that rid your body of waste products and also aid in digestion. Observe for any changes and reactions as well especially when taking medications or if you have underlying conditions.

Making the Tea

Fill at least half a kettle with water then heat on a stove until it is boiling. Putting too little water may cause everything to evaporate. Take a teapot then fill it up with the boiling water from the kettle. Close the top with the lid to maintain the heat. Doing this will heat the teapot which in turn will warm your herbal tea for longer periods of time. Give it about 3 minutes to warm up then pour out all the water on the kitchen sink. Do the same for the teacups.

Take the leaves and flowers of the herb you chose. You may choose to directly place the herbs or wrap them in a tea bag. Place one teaspoon of herbs in each teacup and the teapot. Teabags are also placed in the same manner. Place one teabag per cup and another one for the teapot. Another reliable measurement would be to put one teaspoon of herbs for every cup of water.

Take the kettle and pour hot water into the teacups and teapot. Allow everything to steep for 5 to 8 minutes. Take out the teabag after or strain the tea. Steeping for long periods will draw out tannins that have very bitter taste. Check how the herbal tea tastes. If it seems diluted, you may add more herbs or add more hot water if it's too strong.

Once the herbal tea is perfect to your taste, feel free to add milk or honey if you like for added sweetness. It is okay to have leaves floating in the tea if you're not using teabags as long as you've properly strained the contents initially to avoid tannins. Add garnish to make everything look more presentable.

Alternative Herbal Medicine - My Friend's Story

By John Caines

I've had a pretty weak immune system ever since I was a kid, so I've had more than my fair share of illnesses over the years. I've never gone through a single year without getting several bad colds, the flu, or even worse. As a result of my poor health, I've become very familiar with both over-the-counter and prescription medications. I never gave my medications a second thought until I read a published report that said these drugs might be doing more harm than good in some cases. That's when I decided to look into alternative herbal medicine.

Home Remedies For Better Health

One advantage of alternative herbal medicine is that it's all natural and chemical-free. This means that there's zero chance of becoming addicted to the medication, which is definitely not the case with prescription drugs. Another advantage is that alternative herbal medicine is often much cheaper than the products put out by major pharmaceutical companies. With prescription costs rising all over the country (prompting thousands of people to cross the border to Canada to buy their medications), this low cost makes alternative herbal medicine even more attractive. A third reason that someone might choose alternative herbal medicine is because of allergies. For example, I am allergic to acetaminophen, which is a common pain reliever and fever reducer in over-the-counter medications, so I need to find a different way to treat those problems.

When I tell people that I prefer alternative herbal medicine, I am often met with puzzled looks. The most common question I get is if I'm taking alternative herbal medicine because of religious reasons. While it's true that some people might be doing so, that's not the case for me. I would just rather treat my illnesses as naturally as possible rather than infusing my body with all kinds of chemicals that may turn out to be harmful in some way.

The second most common question I get is whether or not alternative herbal medicine actually works. I was genuinely surprised by the number of people that apparently think alternative herbal medicine is just a sham. Of course I haven't tried all the products out there, but the ones I've used have worked wonderfully well for me. I have used alternative herbal medicine to successfully treat colds, the flu, headaches, digestive disorders, and even a mild case of arthritis.
I'm by no means saying that alternative herbal medicine will work equally well for everyone and for every type of health problem out there. But there's no harm in at least giving these products a chance. So if you're looking for a different way to treat common ailments, then I suggest checking out alternative herbal medicine right now.

Some of the best herbal products on the market today are Herbal Teas. Also Products for Herbal Weight Loss, Herbal Remedies for Depression and even Herbal Remedies for Acne. One of the most recent cures available now are Herbal Remedies for Menopause.

As you can see, Herbal Remedies are here to stay. Try then, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I wish you well and hope you find a Herbal Remedy that's right for you

Understanding Homeopathy

By Pauline Go

Homeopathy can be described as a holistic method of treatment in which treatment of a disease is done based on the symptoms. Homeopathic remedies used for treatment are basically substances that, in an undiluted form, can cause similar kinds of symptoms as like the disease. According to homeopathy, a disease occurs when the vital energy inside a human body gets disrupted or imbalanced.

Home Remedies For Better Health

Medical professionals specializing in homeopathy are called as homeopaths. General treatment procedure of a homeopath is based on the scientific knowledge and understanding the disease of the patient. Since homeopathy is an individualized treatment method, homeopaths are often seen conducting long interviews so that they can get an idea about the lifestyle of the patient, his psychological state of mind and the symptoms of the disease. Homeopathic remedies are effective only when the root cause of the disease is identified.

Homeopathy offers safe and effective cure to a variety of mild and chronic diseases including acne, alopecia, dandruff, eczema, psoriasis, urticaria, Cough and Cold, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, hay fever, adenoiditis, tonsillitis, bronchial asthma, peptic ulcers, constipation, arthritis, migraine, spondylosis and Gout. In most cases, the disease gets cured without any adverse side effects.

However, homeopathy still remains the most controversial form of complementary or alternative medicine. Since there is no valid scientific data available to validate and support the principles of homeopathy and determine the efficacy of the remedies used for treating diseases, its legal status differs from country to country. In countries like France, the UK, Denmark and Luxembourg, homeopathic treatment is covered by national insurance, whereas no such cover is present in countries like Belgium, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Homeopathy is also popular in countries like India, Canada, Argentina, Columbia, Brazil, and Mexico.

Infertility - Ayurveda Concept

By Dr Rajesh Nair

According to Ayurveda, conception takes place due to healthy sperm, healthy ovum and a healthy uterus. For both men and women, reproductive health depends on the health of the shukra dhatu, or reproductive tissue. In women the shukra tissue creates the ovum as part of the monthly cycle, and in men the semen is formed due to sexual stimulation. The shukra tissue itself is created as part of a long chain of metabolic transformations, starting with the digestion of food and including the transformation of food to nutrient fluid, blood, muscle, fat, bone, bone marrow and finally, to shukra tissue. Healthy shukra tissue, then, according to ayurveda, depends on the health of all the other tissues in the body.

Home Remedies For Better Health

The main causes for infertility according to Ayurveda are eating spicy, salty and hot food that increase pitta and destroys shukra (semen), overindulgence in sexual activities that leads to shukra kshaya (loss of semen) it may also cause clibya (impotency), controlling sexual urges for longer duration that results in veeryaavarodha (Obstruction of semen) and leads to decreased libido. In some cases impotency is acquired by birth also.

Ayurvedic treatment for infertility :

** Body Constitution of both the partners are to be evaluated and any blockages are to be cleared and weakness to be tonified.
** Women to stay relaxed as when tensed the fallopian tubes, the blood vessels nourishing the uterus can be constricted, which is not conducive for conceiving.
** Men to avoid alcohol and smoking, reduce poor quality fats in the diet, and increase exercise.
** Yogasanas like Padmasana increases blood flow to the perineum and directs prana (life force) to the lower two chakras that govern sexual functions.
** Ayurvedic herbs such as Gokshura (Tribulis terrestris), Guduchi (Tinosporia cordifolia) and Triphala are very much to clear the blockage. Shatavari (Asparagus racemosa) is a rejuvenative tonic for women. Kapikacchu (Mucuna pruriens) is a proven medicine for increasing the sperm and defective sperm formation.

Yerba Mate - The Healthier Coffee Alternative to Energize, Detoxify

By Danna Schneider

I was introduced to a natural product called yerba mate (pronounced yerba mah-tae) about two years ago, initially as a component of diet supplements and appetite suppressants, and then as a healthier alternative to coffees and some teas as an energy booster.

Home Remedies For Better Health

It turns out, the more I learned about this fascinating natural plant, there are many therapeutic uses that can be used to promote overall health, and it's not just another recreational energy drink like coffee, and well, energy drinks!

My interest in using the natural herb as an energy boosting drink stemmed from the fact that I am very caffeine sensitive, specifically to the caffeine that is present in America's favorite caffeinated beverage, coffee.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still known to once in a while indulge in a latte at Starbucks, but it is much less often than it used to be after I've found an alternative that not only contains no calories, but also offers a plethora of other health benefits with it. That's a win/win to me!

You see, yerba mate is chemically very similar to green tea, and I'm sure by now you've heard all the studies and research that have touted the antioxidant and health benefits of green and white tea.

Well, it's very possible that it may even be a little higher in some of these micronutrients and beneficial natural compounds as well, it's just not as well publicized or popular, perhaps because of the name and that it is not promoted as a "tea".

This, combined with the fact that some find the taste of yerba mate to be undesirable compared with traditional teas may be the reason why yerba mate hasn't grown gangbusters in popularity. This can be easily remedied though, by mixing it with a natural sweetener, or what I do sometimes is mix it with a little organic peppermint tea, and this taste is then quite appealing.

Since it is sold only in health food stores, in tea bags that are ready for steeping, it is also just as convenient as green tea, it just may be a little harder to find.

Some of the benefits that have been reported are increases in energy that are sustained and are not followed by the typical "crash and burn" that are associated with other caffeinated beverages like coffee, stronger teas, and energy drinks.

Also, it is very high in natural antioxidants, which helps promote healthy skin, healthy heart, and healthy cell reproduction which can translate into a decreased cancer risk, since cancer is in effect the unhealthy reproduction of cells.

Not only that, but some of the other, more speculative benefits associated with intake of the herb as of late are increased endurance in exercise due to increased oxygen levels in the blood as well as healthier cell production, a decrease in hunger or appetite, mood improvement, acceleration of caloric metabolism, and even increased focus. Sounds better than the benefits of coffee already, huh?

I don't know about you, but coffee most definitely does not result in either sustained energy or a lack of an energy crash after the surge, so right there, this alternative is better for me personally and I suspect for thousands of others who experience the same thing on other energy drinks.

Yerba mate has caught on more in the more organic and health conscious communities, which I am pleased to say is spreading to areas of the world that were previously more uninformed about the benefits of natural alternatives and healthier choices.

It seems that nowadays everyone is more conscientious of what they are putting into their bodies, and there is more of an abundance of health information resources available to everyone, not just "niche culture" or niche communities.

People are looking for ways to enhance their health and promote their longevity, as well as decrease their risk of catastrophic and life quality impairing diseases and health issues, and yerba mate is a hot drink that fits in very nicely with that set of values and goals in today's more health conscious society.

Natural Herbal Alternative Medicine Cures

By Joe L Golson

One of the oldest forms of health care that has been with humanity is herbal medicine. All over the world, across several cultures, history is fill with evidence that our predecessors used herbs for medicinal purposes. This should not come as a surprise because herbs, unlike modern medicine, are usually safe and do not involve as many side effects.

Home Remedies For Better Health

The late twentieth century saw a reemergence of herbal remedies with the popular of herb-based medications increasing dramatically. More and more hospitals are now offering herbal remedies as complementary alternative treatments with conventional medicines. With this increase in public acceptance of herbal remedies, it has become imperative to conduct studies that can help medical science to understand how herbal medicine works by interacting chemically with our internal bodily functions.

Though it is normally true that herbs and medications derived from them produce have fewer side effects than many allopathic medicines taken for similar symptoms, it is important to remember that even plants contain certain chemicals that can produce toxicity after long-term use. Also, while plant based medicines are usually safe even they can be abused. Unlike allopathic medicines that have trouble staying in the body for extended periods, herbal chemicals can create residues in the body and over a long time this slow poisoning can lead to sickness that cannot be diagnosed or even death.

Just like other medications and food supplements there is always the condition and body type of the individual to be considered before prescribing anything. Many health conditions and complications make it necessary for people with those problems to avoid certain types of herbal medicine.

Ask any doctor, they will tell you that it is a very bad and risky idea to mix medications. In certain cases, this applies to herbal medicines as well. They should never be mixed with other herbs (or extracts) and medications. When hospitals offer herbal therapies as complimentary alternative treatments they make certain that the reaction of the herbs will not conflict with the main course of medication administered. This is not something you should mix and match at home. Consult your doctor before making a medicinal cocktail. Obviously, should you notice any symptoms that ring your internal warning bell, please rush to your doctor immediately.

One of the things that people often do wrong is attempt to self diagnose minor ailments. This is a classic medical trap that most medical students learn very early. Symptoms are so easy to misread that it is common for people to assume that the minor problem they have is actually some serious, life threatening issue. Conversely, bad reading of serious symptoms as being related to some minor problem instead of the real thing is equally dangerous. Do not attempt to self-diagnose if you are not from a medical background and even then, be very careful.

Trying a treatment without understanding the problem will most likely create a whole slew of problems that you never had before. Do not assume that just because you are taking herbs then it does not matter because they will not harm you anyway. Precautions are necessary even with relatively harmless medications.

Since herbal medicines have not been properly scrutinized, the values attributed to them are based on broad generalized descriptions that originated thousands of years ago. Ancient texts explain a lot of things but do not actually tell us how herbal medicine works. We just know through experience and observation that they do. In light of this, it becomes difficult to determine beforehand certain medicinal puzzles like:

  • What can be the possible side effects
  • What internal complications/medication conflicts can create problems
  • What is the maximum and minimum range for a safe dose for a specific patient
  • How many different herbs should be there in each dose
  • How does a patient or healer know that an overdose has happened

It is impossible to know how safe a particular herbal mixture is unless you know precisely the exact contents of the mixture along with a breakdown in terms of the number of herbs and the proportional content of each herb. Simply taking too much of it in the hopes that things will work out for the best is a dangerous choice to follow because of certain toxic side effects of the chemicals in herbal medicines.

Certain cases were reported in the past where a lack of understanding, like the points listed above, or worse, an overwhelming underestimation of the potency of herbal medicines had caused the medical conditions of people to worsen by several degrees. Some of these people underwent hospitalized, not for their original ailment but just to treat the side effects of improperly administered herbal medicine.

Thanks to the modern media hype surrounding natural products as opposed to industrially manufactured ones, there has developed a tendency for developed nations to think that "natural" and "safe" are synonymous. They are nothing of the sort and it would be prudent to avoid that particular confusion.

All this should not discourage you or cause you to look at herbal medicine as something practiced by quacks and fraught with danger. As mentioned earlier, this healing technique has been around for a long, long time and has mostly benefited humanity.

When there has been a problem, it has been due to incompetent judgment on part of the healer or an overdose by the patient. With a little care and discretion, anyone can take herbal supplements or medicines.

Herbal Breast Enlargement - The Complete Guide To Herbal Breast Enlargement

By Karina Sinclair

Finding out about herbal breast enlargement can be such a daunting task. The internet alone has a sheer volume of information dedicated to this topic that it will take weeks to comb over each article and find what is really useful. So here are some of the most basic information about herbal bust enhancement options for women to digest in a short time.

  • The active ingredient in herbal pills is phytoestrogen. It is said to have similar effects to the hormone estrogen which stimulates bust growth.
  • Some of the most popular herbs used for breast enlargement are fenugreek, saw palmetto and wild yam. Aside from enlarging the breasts, they are also said to have other benefits like the reduction of cholesterol in fenugreek and increasing sexual desire in the case of saw palmetto and wild yam.
  • Taking these natural pills is an option taken by women who do not want to undergo surgery and have implants. The reason for this is that the former option is non-invasive (there is no need for surgery) and it is much cheaper than surgery (surgery costs around $5000-6000 in the United States).
  • There are no scientific studies to back up the claim of the herbs' effectiveness and safety as of yet. It is therefore important to take them with caution and with a doctor's advice and to research the range of products available.

There is still a lot more to learn about these natural methods. But the ones listed above are by far the most basic and most important information that women have to know about this bust size enlargement solution.

Are you after ways to make your breast bigger? Not all breast enlargement products are safe, nor do they live up to the bold enlargement claims that they make. I put the "best" natural breast enlargement products to the test and have just published my results. Check out the natural breast enhancement winners at my natural breast enlargement and enhancement website now at http://www.natural-breast-enhancement-and-enlargement.com/

Herbal Treatments for Pain Relief - How Effective Are They?

By Carol A Botha

The worst aspect of many medical conditions is the pain associated with them. The pain alone can cause a number of effects, such as depression, anxiety and insomnia, which themselves hamper healing. It is therefore often desirable to manage the pain as an entity in itself whilst treating the condition giving rise to the pain. Alternative therapies, in the form of meditation, hypnosis and herbal treatments, all have an important place in the field of pain management.

Home Remedies For Better Health

One of the benefits of natural pain relief remedies is that they are multi-functional, acting on the organism in a wholistic fashion. This means that any particular ingredient will frequently be associated with additional, complementary effects. Thus not only will your herbal solution act on your pain, it may also assist in relieving your anxiety and improve your quality of sleep. As an added benefit, it will generally do this without any toxic effect on other organs and tissues. This is not to say that herbal remedies are entirely without side effects, but these are far rarer and less severe than with allopathic drugs.

This is in contrast to conventional drugs which are frequently associated with unwanted side effects. One possible reason for this is that whilst pharmaceutical agents are directed specifically at one organ or symptom, they are extremely concentrated chemical compounds which frequently and inadvertently impact other systemic interactions within the body. This can lead to their having deleterious effects on bodily systems not being targeted for treatment.

Another downside to treating pain with herbal remedies is the fact that are usually not quick to act. A herbal treatment can take from a few days to a few weeks to have any noticeable effect. This often leads people to assume that the treatment is not working, and to give up before the realising the benefit. Pharmaceutical drugs, on the other hand, have an almost instantaneous impact, which is obvious and which encourages the patient to keep taking the drug. Again however, the point needs to be stressed that pharmaceutical drugs are powerful, concentrated forms of artificially manufactured chemicals which act throughout the body. Even paracetamol, one of the "safest" analgesics available, can cause liver failure and subsequent death if the recommended dose is exceeded.

It goes without saying that herbal treatments are not suitable for every painful condition. Severe, acute pain requires a rapid and dramatic resolution, and is a perfect indication for the short term use of allopathic medicine. Western medicine however is ill suited to treating chronic pain. The powerful drugs have a cumulative impact on the system over time, often resulting in the requirement for further drugs to treat the side effects. There is often also a requirement to treat the associated conditions of depression and anxiety. These additional drugs may themselves have unwanted side effects, requiring additional treatment. And so it begins - the spiral into iatrogenic disease - needing more and more drugs to treat an ever expanding list of side effects unrelated to the original complaint. Chronic pain conditions however are where herbal remedies come into their own - they provide an effective, healthy, wholistic treatment which has helped millions to cope with chronic, debilitating pain that modern medicine was unable to alleviate successfully.

Are herbal treatments for pain relief effective? The answer must be a resounding "Yes!". There have been a number of scientific studies which have concluded that herbal remedies such as valerian and willow bark do provide pain relief to sufferers. So why is there still so much controversy in this area? One reason is likely to be due to the non-compliance of patients, who, not understanding that herbal remedies take time to work their magic, terminate the treatment before the benefit is obvious and then conclude that herbal remedies "don't work". Another reason people sometimes don't achieve the best results with herbal treatments is that they either use poor quality products, take the wrong dose or prepare them incorrectly. If you want to self-medicate, ensure the product you purchase is of the highest and purest quality, and then follow the directions or seek expert advice. Then there is the fact that different remedies will work differently for different people, and the effect will also differ according to the location and causation of the pain. Because of this it may be necessary to try a number of different alternatives before finding the one that suits you best.

This might sound like far too much trouble. However, if you are suffering from chronic pain, you are likely to require a long term treatment. Herbal remedies are known to work, and to work safely. The side effects associated with the long term use of pharmaceutical analgesics however can be severe and permanent, ranging from tissue damage and organ failure to addiction. Isn't it worth taking the time to investigate the natural solution?

Getting To Know Herbs

By Rajni Seth

Herbs are nature's gift to mankind. They are either plants or their extracts and include the bark, the roots, the stem, the bark and the berries. Some are even made into oils, which can be used for many purposes. They have been in vogue ever since the inception of mankind and have been used to cure many diseases. Of course since no official records were maintained, a lot of information has been passed on through word of mouth.

Home Remedies For Better Health

In India, herbs have been used for health care for over three thousand years and other cultures have not been far behind. Indian Ayurvedic doctors have successfully used them to combat common ailments and diseases. The Egyptians went one step further and used herbs and their oils to embalm mummies, while the Greek and the Chinese have been practicing traditional medicine very successfully.

The advantage of herbs is that they provide very few calories per teaspoon. So even if you are on a low calorie diet, they may be freely used. They contain many nutrients and also are excellent sources of the vitamins required in our daily regimen. Paprika is a very good source of Vitamin A and the common parsley, which is so often used as dressing in salads contains vitamin C. Cumin seeds contain iron and some even contain calcium. Herbs like basil, coriander, cloves, mint, and fennel leaves are good antioxidants. It is claimed that they could prevent the buildup of plaque in the arteries.

For those who are suffering from the underproduction of insulin, cinnamon is said to hold the key. It is supposed to increase insulin activity in the body. Some contain compounds that have antiseptic or antibiotic properties while other herbs have compounds, which can relieve cramps, can de-stress and can cure common skin ailments. The good part is that they serve the dual purpose of spicing up ordinary food while supplying vitamins and nutrients essential for the development of the body.

The advent of science based medicine in the sixteenth century made herbal medicine take a back seat. It was in the 19th century that scientists actually began isolating chemicals from plants and modern medicine began to make great headway. Herbal remedies were regarded as obsolete forms of treatment, and mankind turned to the modern allopathic form of medicine. The renaissance of herbal medication can be attributed to the side effects of modern medicine.

Most herbs by themselves are safe and can be taken even in conjunction with allopathic medicine. It is found that people who are health conscious are veering towards herbal products. Herbal toothpastes, shampoos, oils and other alternatives to certain allopathic medicines are freely available. With little exception, almost all people in the world use them for various purposes. Depending upon the geographical location and the climate, each region produces its own indigenous type, which are unique by themselves. Grandma's remedies will never really vanish from the face of the earth.

Is Chelation Therapy Right For You?

By Mike Selvon

Scientists believe that the human body often contains microscopic pieces of heavy metal such as mercury, lead or even iron. While generally overlooked by traditional medicine, these traces of heavy metals in our bodies can cause or irritate health conditions including heart disease and cancer.

Home Remedies For Better Health

Chelation therapy is a non-surgical treatment that is believed to purge these toxic metals from the body. In this article, we'll explain how metal detoxification works and how it can improve your health. It is the administration of chelating agents to remove heavy metals from the body. This metal detoxification can be done intravenously, intramuscularly or orally. Alternative medicine uses this therapy in the treatment of heart disease and in the treatment of autistic patients. Some chelation advocates claim that autism might be caused or aggravated by heavy metal poisoning and might be treated by using this heavy metal detoxification method.

However, there is no scientific evidence to support this hypothesis. This remedy is also widely used for the treatment of chronic degenerative diseases involving the circulatory system. The chelation halts the bad effects and initiates the body's healing process, often reversing the damage. Many patients who could not walk due to muscle pain or angina pain have reported that they can walk without pain after this treatment.

The chemical EDTA is mixed with vitamins and minerals and is administered by an intravenous drip over a period of three hours. EDTA binds with and removes, through the kidneys, toxic metals such as lead, aluminum, cadmium, arsenic, tin, and excess iron and copper.
These heavy metals trigger the formation of free radicals which are a major cause of degenerative illnesses including heart and blood vessel disease. The EDTA is eliminated from the body, 95 per cent via the kidneys and 5 per cent via the bile, along with the toxic metals and free ionic calcium which it has locked onto, in its transit through the circulatory system.

There have been a number of side effects associated with chelation therapy. One of the most common problems of this metal and mercury detoxification process is headaches. This is generally from a low blood sugar level, so to prevent this from happening, it is advised to eat before or during the treatment. Nausea or stomach upset can also occur due to a deficiency of vitamin B6, but is only manifested in less than 1 percent of the patients receiving the treatment. Other side effects can include diarrhea, faintness, extreme fatigue, fever, cramps and joint pain.

The effectiveness of chelation therapy is still questioned by the mainstream medical community, but devotees of alternative treatments believe that the treatment can greatly benefit patients. Chelation therapists usually require their patients to quit smoking, lose weight, eat a healthy, low fat diet and exercise regularly. Even with this particular therapy aside - these are still healthy choices to make.

Medicinal Herbs That Heal

By Rajni Seth

Medicine and treatment of diseases go a long long way back. This is true even of the medicinal herbs used to treat various ailments. The ancient Indian text, the Atharva Veda has many references to medicinal herbs and the various ways they can be used. In ancient times, as there was no standard treatment meted out to take care of ailing people, herbal medicine was put to considerable use.

Home Remedies For Better Health

Treating cuts and wound, treating diseases like malaria and typhoid and treating fevers fell within the purview of the herbal domain. Although people were unaware as to how these herbs actually functioned, they knew that they did provide relief from pain and had a soothing effect on the person who was suffering. This was the primary aim. Later on, when these herbs were boiled, distilled and purified, they were made into pills, which were more effective.

From the bark of the neem tree, which is used to strengthen gums and clean teeth, to its leaves, flowers and fruits that are used to treat various skin disorders, the neem tree is a typical example of medicated wonder. It has anti-bacterial properties, acts as a fungicide, and has been successfully used to cure eczema, psoriasis, and dandruff.

The basil or the 'tulsi' as it is commonly known in India, also has a history dating right into Indian culture. It has always been regarded as having purifying properties. A tea made from it's leaves is very effective in treating throat disorders. The paste made from basil leaves is used in poultices, which are used for wounds and skin disorders. While the seeds of the herb anise are used to tackle flatulence, colic and disturbances of the digestive tract, the herb arnica is used to reduce inflammation, heal bruises and cuts. Anise is a mild herb and is sometimes given to children to be used as an expectorant.

Cinnamon is a herb which almost acts like a catalyst hastening other remedies to work faster. It purifies the blood and also helps to combat infections. Cloves are herbs, which have immense value. The oil of the clove is used to tackle toothaches. They produce sweating when there is a fever and is used to treat whooping cough. The herb eucalyptus has wonderful medicinal properties. The oil is used as an antiseptic to treat gum disease and also prevents infections caused by burns. A mixture of the oil and leaves when steamed helps to cure sinusitis. The leaves and the oil act as insect repellants. Fenugreek is a herb which reduces infections in the lungs. Mixed with lemon and honey it brings down a fever and also supplies the body with nutrients. Like fenugreek, coriander is used as a spice and has medicinal value. It helps in digestion and increases the appetite. When made into a lotion, it is used for rheumatic pain. The oil is used in cosmetics.

Camphor oil made from camphor leaves has been used as an embalming fluid. The crystals have antiseptic and antispasmodic properties. Balms and liniments are used to counter rheumatic and back pain. As a chest rub, it is used to treat bronchitis and lung infections. Celery acts as a cleanser and a diuretic. Its seeds help to get rid of the waste accumulated in the body. Medicinal herbs have thus formed an inevitable part of our lives. There are more medicinal herbs than have been actually discovered, and the ones that have been discovered have uses and benefits beyond the ones that have been stipulated.

Acid Reflux Natural Remedies

By Clive Chung

While it may seem that nearly everyone is seeking some sort of natural remedies for acid reflux, it is important to realize that it should be done with the knowledge of your physician. Some natural remedies have been shown in clinical studies to interact with antidepressant medication, for example, and others can decrease the effectiveness of certain drugs taken for cardiovascular disease.

Home Remedies For Better Health

Like medications, acid reflux natural remedies usually have some intended action in the body, as you will discover below; some example, act as anti-inflammatory agents on a scorched esophageal mucosa while others are intended to soothe a nauseous tummy. Unlike medications, however, acid reflux natural remedies dosage and strength can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, from batch to batch, from bottle to bottle. As a result, your benefits may also vary.

Below are different natural remedies that may provide relief of certain symptoms:

Barley grass. Usually a concoction made from juice extracted from young barley grass, this substance is rich in amino acids and in chlorophyll. It has natural anti-inflammatory properties.

Chamomile and fennel seed teas. Given to babies in a weak tea to settle a case of colic, these acid reflux natural remedies, best prepared in the tea form, are soothing to the gastrointestinal system in that they reduce gas and cramping. Beware, however, some individuals find that they are sensitive to these properties and experience a worsening of their symptoms as the LES also relax. Be careful if you take sedatives or blood thinners since the herbs can magnify those effects.

Meadowsweet. With properties that are consistent with aspirin, one might think that these natural remedies for acid reflux are simply a pain reliever. However, teas and extracts made from the flowers of the plant have also been found to have anti-inflammatory and antacid qualities, making this herb a choice for some people with symptomatic acid reflux.

Homemade Herbal Oils

By Wayne Potter

Making your own homemade Herbal oils is a great homemade skin care ingredient project because there is very little needed to get started. So if you have some left over canning jars lets make some herbal oils. All you will need is:

  • Your herbs or flowers
  • Carrier oil
  • Canning jars 6 oz and 12oz
  • Store in colored bottles

We will start using the "Hot Method" using the stove to make our homemade herbal oils. There is a "Cold Method" which is not really cold because you will be using the sun. The cold method takes months on a shelf letting the sun do it's magic. I have only worked with the hot method and look forward to trying it next summer.

Herbal Medicines And Plant Facts Used For Everyday Home Cures.

Start by taking the flower peddles or herbs and rub them between your thumb and pointing finger to wrinkle them up. This will help extract as much active plant material as possible. Make sure there is no water on the peddles of the flowers or herbs this may lead to spoiling.

I make this as if I were canning tomatoes. In one stock pot a place a wire grate at the bottom of the pan with 6 12oz canning jar or you can use Pyrex measuring cup inside. This way you can make up to six different types although I usually only make up two or three different types.

In the 12 oz canning jar put herbs or flowers in. Only fill two thirds full then cover with 6oz of your carrier oil. Leaver some room at the top so you will not have to worry about spilling it when you bring it out of the water.

Fill the stock pot up with water so that it is haft way up the jar . If they start to float there is too much water and you will have to ladle some out. Bring the water up to a simmer and let the herbal oil stay in there for 2 to 3 hours. This is best done when you know you are going to be in and out of the kitchen. You will need to ad water to the pan from time to time, if you don't it will run dry!!

In another stock pot I put in six 6 oz canning jars and heat them up as if you were canning. Make sure they are dry, then pour your oil through a fine mesh strainer into your canning jars and put the lid on. I like when the top seals but if it does not it will be ok. What you will want to look for is a layered look to the oil. At the bottom if you see a watery layer this will need to be separated and discarded. This This water will make your oil Spoil. I wait and see, giving it a day or two, then put the oil into smaller colored bottles. If it does not happen I can wait and do it latter. To make sure this does not happen use dried herds, but I use fresh even though it can be more work for a homemade herbal oil.

If the oils are going to be used for the bath I will use Sunflower oil or Grapeseed oils as the base oil. For body butter, lip balms I use Jojoba, Almond, or Extra Virgin Olive oil.

Now the hard part what to put in the oil. Here are just a few of the many plants that you can use. Chamomile, Eucalyptus, Rose, lavender, Comfrey. You may want to look for plants to grow this spring in your garden.

One tip for your oils.

When I put the herbal oil into their individual colored bottles some I will fortify the mixture with tea tree oil ( 5 drips or so ). This is the oil that I will be using in body butters or lip balms.

When you find a good combination of herbs and you would like to share your recipe I would be glad to post it for you.

The Essential Key to Experiencing Aromatherapy's Many Benefits

By Todd Daon

Remedies commonly found in nature through plants and herbs have been considered to be mankind's medicine cabinet since ancient times. Back in the days of healers, shaman and witch-doctors extracts from plants and herbs have been used to treat and cure potentially fatal diseases as well as minor ailments. Due to the orthodox way these medicines were made many of the treatments and results have been discredited by contemporary doctors.

The truth of the matter is that almost all drugs we use today have come from nature, and by recognizing this undeniable link between natural remedies and common ailments, aromatherapy was born. Many people are attracted to aromatherapy essential oil kits as a drug free, holistic approach to healing that they can use at home.

Aromatherapy remedies are made of several kinds of everyday plants and fruits, for instance, perfumes and drinks and enhanced by using essential oils found in fruits such as lemon, grapefruit, etc. There are several methods used to extract the valuable oil from fruits, plants and herbs; one of the methods is called infusion, another one is referred to as absolute but the most accepted method of oil extraction is that which leaves the essential oils of the plant/fruit which reduces all of the elements which could possibly cause irritations or skin allergic reactions.

In order to properly and effectively use essential oils one must follow application procedures such as: diffusion, direct application or dietary supplements. The application procedures or methods just described are the most commonly used by people who want to take full advantage of the healing properties of essential oils found in natural products.

Diffusion involves either special candles or similar devices which help spread a fine mist of oils throughout the entire room you are occupying.

Direct application as the phrase implies, requires for you or someone to actually apply these essential oils over your skin which can help cells get much needed nutrients to perform basic functions.

Essential oils can also be consumed through dietary supplements which interact directly with our organism and due to the oxygenating properties of natural oils, it improves our health and revitalizes our body from the inside out.

As you can see there are several methods to take advantage of essential oils, all of which can be considered important factors in aromatherapy treatment to help you relax, regain or improve your health and become more productive.

Herbs For Menopause

By Bart Rutherford

If you are experiencing menopause or are in the early stages of it, you may want to look into using herbs. These herbs can alleviate many of the symptoms you will face.

Some of the symptoms you may be experiencing include hot flashes, anxiety, and depression. You may not want to rely on western medicine to fix these problems, so herbs for menopause are often a great alternative.

Home Remedies For Better Health

One of the most widely used herbs is Black Cohosh. This is a plant that has something called phytoestrogens. Since your estrogen levels are in fluctuation when you are experiencing this condition, it is believed that Black Cohosh can help regulate them.

Your estrogen works naturally in your body to help produce bone strength, vaginal lubrication, and temperature regulation. When menopause decreases your estrogen levels, it is wise to use these herbs to alleviate your symptoms.

The plant estrogen can mimic your natural estrogen, and will bind to the estrogen receptors. This whole process can relieve many of the symptoms you're experiencing.

Another great example of menopause herbs is called Dong Quai. This is a Chinese herb that is very commonly used for menopausal symptoms. Much like Black Cohosh, Dong Quai can increase estrogen levels in your body. Not only does it increase estrogen levels, Dong Quai also contains helpful vitamins like vitamins E, A, and B12. You need these to maintain a healthy body.

Dong Quai is also attributed to increasing blood flow, which helps relieve hot flashes and lubricates the vagina. Another great feature of Dong Quai is that it has properties that make it a great sedative. This can be very helpful for those who are experiencing mood swings and high anxiety.

Maca root is a third entry into the group of herbs. This herb hails from South America and is traditionally used as an aphrodisiac.

Unlike the other two herbs, Maca root doesn't have any plant estrogens. It works instead by helping to balance our body's hormones. Maca root can be very beneficial to women who are in menopause. The balancing act it does for your body is likely to improve many of your symptoms.

Taking herbs is a great idea if you like to stay natural. Western medicine is excellent, but no one can deny that herbs work wonders in reducing the effect that menopause can have on our body and mind.

Black Cohosh, Dong Quai, and Maca root are top-notch for the symptoms. Discuss your options with your doctor before you start taking any of these. Once you do, you'll be very grateful you decided to take herbs for menopause.

Herbs used for menopausal treatment may work for some and not for others. To find out even more about Herbs for Menopause read here

By Dr John Anne

Contagious infections, viral in disease, and enforced by coronaviruses and picornaviruses are the forces that prey upon individuals, generally infecting them with acute viral nasopharyngitis or acute coryza, as they strike upon the upper respiratory system with a vengence. This vial disease that has been described in clinical terminology is generally referred to as the common cold. The plaguing symptoms of the debilitating ailment can last for up to a week at their most intense, and linger on up to two weeks. These agonizing symptoms include cough, fatigue, fever, headache, loss of appetite, malaise, muscle weakness, nasal congestion, sore throat and sneezing. The potential looms as to the afflicted individual missing a few days of either school or work. As there is not a single vaccine available, home remedies for cold are the most optimal modes of treatment.

Home Remedies For Better Health

Its susceptible individual, through direct and indirect interactions with other individuals possessing such virus, contracts a common cold's virus. Aerosols, that contains the viruses of colds, which are imparted with such germination through coughing or sneezing is one form of contracting. Ayurvedic Organic Herbs For Good Health

By Rajni Seth

The word Ayurveda is an Indian system of medicine that is widely prevalent. The term means "science of life" and it is appropriate that Ayurvedic herbs conform to the highest standards thus ensuring optimal health. Ayurvedic organic herbs are grown using only natural products. They are called as organic herbs because organic farming practices are employed. This word organic has become very important of late as more and more people are going in for organic materials and organic food.

Home Remedies For Better Health

So what is special about ayurvedic organic herbs? Just this-No synthetic fertilizers are used to enhance the growth, no synthetic pesticides are used to kill pests and more importantly, the herbs are not genetically modified. Since natural processes are involved, it is obvious that for growing ayurvedic organic herbs, the health of the soil plays an important role.

If the onus is on soil health, then the organic herbs must be rotated in such a way that the fertility of the soil is increased. Green manure and compost is mixed with the soil. In the place of synthetic fertilizers, natural seed meal and rock phosphate are used to increase the health of the ecosystem.

These ayurvedic organic herbs obviously contain more minerals, enzymes and vitamins than the chemically treated herbs. Since the herbs are organic, they protect us from the ills of harsh chemicals and toxic fertilizers. They nourish and provide more nutrients to our bodies thus promoting good health. Even while harvesting, care is taken that the environment is not damaged. Such herbs used extensively in our daily lives can only promote health and well - being. As they contain no synthetic inputs, they can be used safely on the skin or any other sensitive part of the body without any fear.

As the soil is rich and full of natural nutrients, the organic herbs taste better, have increased flavor and are healthier. Healthy herbs mixed with good food augurs good health. There are many ayurvedic stores, which offer purely organic herbs. Of course there is a price tag attached to this. Organic herbs are very expensive, but remember the good old adage "Good health is the only form of true wealth." So go organic and become healthy.

The Best Herbal Wake-Uppers

By Vanessa A. Doctor

For those who have a hard time waking up in the morning, having a cup of coffee or some other form of stimulant would surely be of great help to those who still feel sleepy, dazed and unwilling to wake up and go to work, school, or take care of business at home. Most of us drink coffee, or some take energy drink and other forms of commercially-sold stimulants to perk us up and prepare for the long day ahead.

However, whenever we get hooked up to these forms of stimulants there may be some effects, which in the long-term could be addictive, or outright dangerous to our bodies. Extra caution is advised when taking these forms of stimulants to perk us up and keep us awake. Consult your physician or dietitian to find out which energy drinks are safe and effective.

Home Remedies For Better Health

What Are The Components Of Energy Drinks

Energy drinks, which are commonly seen in stores and groceries, are soft drinks that are advertised as being specifically designed to provide energy. Usually, these include a combination of methylxanthines, which include caffeine, B vitamins, and herbal ingredients. Other energy drinks have ingredients which include guarana (extracts from the guarana plant) or taurine plus various forms of ginseng, maltodextrin, inositol, carnitine, creatine, glucuronolactone and ginkgo biloba.

Some contain high levels of sugar, while most drinks add artificial sweeteners. The main component in most energy drinks is caffeine, the same stimulant found in coffee or tea, often in the form of guarana or yerba mate.

Are Herbal Drinks Safe?

Bee pollen, ginkgo biloba, milk thistle, and other herbals are added in most herbal energy drinks or teas, for reasons which range from improving memory to boosting immunity. Often there's little or no evidence to back up the claims or verify the safety of these ingredients. And the amount in a single energy drink is probably too small in most cases to have any effect, good or bad, although some allergic reactions may happen to some individuals.

Effective Herbal Teas And Mixtures

There are also a lot of beneficial herbs that directly enhance energy, stamina, endurance, and prevent fatigue. You can cook with cayenne pepper, ginger, or cinnamon, which are generally metabolic stimulants. Sea vegetables or sea weeds can stimulate thyroid function, thereby improving metabolism and digestion, thus increasing absorption and energy.

- Some of the tonic herbs for enhancing energy include P. ginseng, wild American ginseng, gotu kola, ho shou wu, licorice, sarsaparilla, ginkgo, and Tienchi ginseng. These herbs increase energy, endurance, stamina, as well as help the body adapt to stress and recovery from physical or emotional challenges.

- Gotu kola (Centella asiatica) strengthens and rejuvenates your nervous system, strengthens your adrenals, improves mental functions, helps prevent fatigue, and helps you respond to stress.

- Ginkgo biloba increases blood flow and oxygen to your brain, circulatory system, and other parts of your body. It is a perfect antioxidant that helps your body respond to stress, and is helpful to people whose fatigue is related to decreased vascular capacity.

- Licorice (Glycyrrhiza uralensis or glabra) aids in regulating blood sugar. and energy levels and helps tonify your adrenals, kidneys, spleen, and stomach.

In order to increase energy, it is important to take a comprehensive approach, which includes avoiding food that cause fatigue/allergies and include some specific foods and supplements. Allergy-causing foods generally produce fatigue and depression. Some of the common allergy-causing foods are dairy, wheat and other gluten-containing grains such as rye, sugar-rich food, alcoholic drinks, peanuts, caffeine drinks, soft drinks, corn, and eggs.

Cherry Juice for Gout?

By Monica Nelson

Cherry Juice as an Effective Gout Treatment

The popular fruit cherry now has more to offer other than as a topping in your ice cream. Emerging alternative treatment for gout is now focusing its attention on this ruby sweet to help relieve the painful inflammation of the joints, known as arthritis and gout.

Home Remedies For Better Health

Cherries, in all its varieties, are rich in antioxidants and flavonoids. Antioxidants are nature's most celebrated soldiers against cancer. They fight free radicals that attack cells. Flavonoids, on the other hand, are compounds that, aside from its cancer-fighting abilities, also help relieve inflammation of bodily joints and tissues. Initially, flavonoids were connected mostly to plants and fruits' coloring, but more researches are emerging certifying the health boosting capacity of the said element.

The most important and efficient flavonoid to date that helps treat gout is called anthocyanins. Cherry now tops the choice of gout patients as they are rich in anthocyanins.

What are Anthocyanins?

Anthocyanins are a type of flavonoids naturally found in nature. They provide the pigmentation and color of leaves, flowers, and fruits. They are responsible for the cherry's rich red hue. They are a type flavonoid most common in brightly colored fruits. In the past, they were treated as color providers only. It was in recent researches where their powers as anti-inflammatory agents were being discovered.

As an anti-inflammatory agent, they help reduce many types of pain caused by tissue swelling and damage. Gout is not an exception to its inflammation pacifying capacities. Since gout is brought about by joint distension, any element that can fight the swelling will bring reprieve to the patient.

How do Anthocyanins Work?

A published paper in Michigan State University states that anthocyanins are at least 10 times more effective in cherries than in the most common non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, aspirin. Anthocyanins work by blocking the production of enzymes that stimulate tissue and joint inflammation. It acts much like a neutralizer that impedes tissue swelling when uric acid crystals start attacking the joints. By inhibiting these enzymes that promote inflammation, gout is effectively combated and the pain is greatly reduced. Prostaglandin, the element pinpointed as the source of joint pain, is said to be inhibited by anthocyanins.

Doctors and researchers have also noted that it is the anthocyanins in cherries that reduce uric acid levels in the body, the culprit of gout. Studies as the University of California have shown that eating at least a serving of cherries everyday lowers the uric acid in the body considerably. The said study has also shown that it does not matter if the cherries served are fresh, dried, or juiced. The results were all the same in showing that the reduction in uric acid was apparent. This is a helpful diet information especially if the patient combines sensible eating habits and restricts alcohol consumption.

Anthocyanins work in a three fold manner. First, during inflammation or the gout attack itself, enzymes tear and damage the connective tissues in the joints, making the capillaries burst and the blood to spill over its surrounding tissues. Anthocyanins will then combat these destructive enzymes and prevent further damage. They will block the destructive enzymes from further reproducing start protecting the affected tissues. Next, their antioxidant properties will block the oxidants that were released upon inflammation and tissue damage. Lastly, they restore the lost proteins and bring the tissues back to their original state.

Home Remedies For Better Health

In essence, this natural compound relieves pain and helps patients by combating inflammation and reducing tissue tearing. Finding and using a natural shield against gout is very important to patients because it helps take away the dangers of prolonged drug use.

How Much Cherries do we Need?

Twenty five (25) milligrams of anthocyanins can be obtained by eating twenty cherries. The said quantity is enough to block the damage-inducing enzymes that come with joint inflammation.

Studies have shown that it is best to consume cherries, and benefit from its anti-inflammatory properties, on a regular basis. Eating cherries or drinking cherry juice gout attack will help cut short the symptoms after some time. On the other hand, if these wonder fruits are taken in at a regular basis, it acts not only as a gout attack fighter but also as a powerful prevention tool.

Home Remedies For Stomach Flu

By Laxmi Keshav

Home remedies, more or less deliver results for so many diseases, from sore throat, flu, to common cold. Often these remedies will make your condition bearable rather than cure it. Actually that is what home herbal remedies are supposed to do - make you feel more comfortable giving your body system enough time to heal. So many people, therefore, rely on home remedies for a large number of common diseases.

Home Remedies For Better Health

Stomach flu is one health problem which is hard to contain with the help of home remedies. It does not mean that there is no remedy for the disease. The real problem is pf containment. Remedies essentially involve swallowing something, and it is almost impossible to swallow when you have a bad stomach flu, simply because anything that goes down is up in seconds.

Even then, there are quite a remedies worth trying when you have it. Among them, herbal tea stands out. There are several kinds of stomach teas that are very good for you. Peppermint is very soothing on the stomach, as is ginger. If you're using a ginger tea, however, you should only use a little bit. Once you have a stomach flu, almost anything can irritate your tummy. Remedies that irritate the stomach lining will be no good. They will be out before you can even finish them!

Ironically there is one important upside to stomach flu - it does not last for very long. It will generally start to subside after 12 hours at the most, at which point you can try using some remedies to make you more comfortable. Up to that point, however, there is very little that you can do. There are remedies out there that claim to cure it, but by the time you can take them, the flu will already be mostly gone.

When you have a stomach flu, there is little you can do about it. It all boils down to surviving. Your first task should be to try and keep yourself hydrated, whatever the hardship. You must take in lot of water, sip clear broth if you can, and have some tea from time to time. Anything to keep liquid inside of your body will help.

Aromatherapy Formulas for Children With Alopecia Areata

By Melanie Vonzabuesnig

Aromatherapy is becoming a well-known and popular treatment for alopecia areata. Because alopecia areata is most prevalent in children, one must ask if these treatments are safe for children. With current treatments producing undesirable side effects and mediocre results, parents looking for alternatives may be tempted to purchase or make an essential oil treatment for their child's hair loss.

One of the most famous formulas is from a study conducted by dermatologists in Scotland. The results were impressive, concluding aromatherapy to be a safe and effective treatment for alopecia areata. This particular formula uses the essential oils of cedarwood, rosemary, lavender and thyme in a solution of grapeseed oil and jojoba.

While lavender oil is safe in small amounts even for very young children, cedarwood, rosemary and thyme are not recommended for children under a certain age. Certain chemo-types and variations of thyme should be avoided completely. As the child progresses in age and size more essential oils can be used safely.

Roman chamomile and lavender oil are generally safe choices for very young children (aged 2 and up). These oils are highly valued for scalp and hair care. They also have the ability to produce a soothing, relaxing effect that can assist a child dealing with the emotional aspects of hair loss. As the child grows in age more essential oils become safe to use. Eventually oil such as rosemary, geranium, marjoram, frankincense, cypress and rosemary can be incorporated in the formulas as long as they are in the proper dilution.

Another consideration is how potent the child's formula should be. Essential oils must be diluted into a carrier oil before they can be applied to the scalp. The younger the child, the more highly diluted the essential oils must be. Choosing the correct base oil is also important. Hazelnut or sweet almond oil are safe and gentle for small children, unless they have a nut allergy. In cases of nut allergies, olive oil can be used.

Extreme care must be taken when using essential oils on children. There is no such thing as a generic one-size-fits-all formula, especially when it comes to children. Safe effective scalp formulas for children can be achieved by using the correct essential oils in the proper dilution ratio. Aromatherapy can provide a safe and effective treatment for children with alopecia areata as long is it is used responsibly and all safety guidelines are adhered to. A trained aromatherapist can assist with creating a safe, effective, age-appropriate formula.

Improved hair growth is not the only benefit of aromatherapy scalp massage. Putting aside the time to massage the scalp of a child with alopecia areata can create a wonderful bonding experience for both the child and the parent. The soothing effects are therapeutic for both child and parent. As the parent gently massages aromatic oils into the child's scalp, a safe, nurturing environment is created. Because scent association and memory are intimately connected, the aroma of the essential oils can strengthen the connection between child and parent for year to come.

Natural Home Remedies for Earaches

By Trinas

Earaches often develop from an infection such as a cold or sinusitis. It is important to treat earaches immediately before they can extend into the middle or inner ear where serious complications may arise. Often an earache is associated with catarrh, an irritation of the membranes of the nose and throat.

Home remedies are a great 'first defense' against earaches. You can often stop the ache and cure the infection before any serious matters arise. Always consult your physician when attempting any home remedy or natural therapy.

Home Remedies For Better Health

Home Remedies for earaches:

Aromatherapy - By applying a hot compress to the ear you can draw the inflammation out and pull outwards any pus that may be located inside the ear.

Using Chamomile or Lavender oils in combination with hot compresses should provide earache relief.

Herbalism - Hot compresses with herbal extracts seem to provide results. Chamomile used as an infusion will also provide favorable results.

Garlic can be taken internally to help fight the catarrh and infection.

Garlic can also be crushed and used for the earache by crushing a clove of garlic into one tsp of olive oil and then warm to blood temperature. Using a dropper, a few drops applied into the ear with serve as a local antibiotic. (Never do this home remedy if experiencing any severe pain or have a perforation in your ear drum. Garlic solution should never be boiled or attempted to be put in your ear if overheated, as this could cause sever burns. Consult with your physician on any new therapies you are not familiar with.)

Homeopathy - to be used as acute remedies

Belladonna - for throbbing pains, flushed face, lots of hear around the ear, possible high temperature

Hepar Sulph - for a very painful ear, very tender to the touch, possible discharge of pus - this condition requires medical attention quickly and should not be ignored.

Pulsatilla - can be used if there is a lot of thick, green catarrh present and the earache and congestion is worse in hot rooms or stuffy atmospheres.

Garlic - Amazing Antifungal Treatment For Your Feet

By Sharon A Bell

If your home were like a space between your toes, you would rather die than live! Living in such a space means living in a damp, cramp, and dark place; and that is not even considering the stink! Truly, your feet may not be the best place to live in for you. But did you know that there are other tenants who would kill for the opportunity to settle down in a place like the middle of your toes?

Home Remedies For Better Health

Well, they're called fungi. And they consider your feet as the best place to live in and multiply. Once these organisms have started to establish their colonies on your feet, you will experience a burning and itchy sensation plus a flaking and peeling skin on your feet. You see, fungus is the main cause for what is commonly known as Athlete's foot.

Removing these unwanted tenants on your feet can be difficult and may involve a change in your habits if you want a more permanent solution to Athlete's foot. Sure, there are topical medications available, but fungus can dig deeper into your skin such that skin applications may have a hard time penetrating them. You may need oral fungicides prescribed by your doctor to finally stop the fungus on your feet. But even so, when you think that fungus in your feet is down to zero, they can suddenly and without warning come back in a vengeance!

If you do not want to cuddle the fungus that brings you Athlete's foot, then it may be time to stop wearing the same pair of shoes or sandals for days in a row. You should also consider changing socks everyday or even during the day. And maybe, it is time you take a look and try the best antifungal herb to fight the squatters on your feet; it's called garlic and it can be found right in your kitchen!

Garlic, The Fungi Killer

Remember all those vampire movies you've watched? Well, one thing's for sure, those blood suckers hate garlic and it even makes them explode! The same thing goes for fungi. Garlic is nature's most reliable and potent herb against fungi. And to really get this herb's benefits, you should learn how to eat it raw because the most active antifungal component called allicin is zapped by prolonged exposure to various processing steps.

Home Remedies For Better Health

Try eating three to four cloves of garlic everyday for about five months, and you will see the results. Fungus is defeated, the stink and the itch on your feet are gone, and the chance for fungi to go back to your feet is greatly diminished. When taking raw garlic, always remember to drink lots of water to prevent stomach upset. You can also use garlic capsules if you can not stand the smell of the raw herb; just make sure that your capsules are made from the purest essences of garlic.

Apart from adding garlic into your diet, you can also apply garlic oil on the fungus-ridden areas of your feet. This is a more direct way of applying all the fungus-fighting properties of garlic. However, you may not want to replace the stink from Athlete's foot with the stench of garlic; worse, the smell can go beyond your feet this time as the smell of garlic oil can get to your shoes, socks, and bed sheets.

Indeed, there are countless of tenants who want to make a home out of your legs and feet. Apart from the fungi that cause athlete's foot, other famous dwellers from your lower limbs are spider veins. Although spider veins are not dangerous, they can certainly ruin the appearance of your legs. To fight these stubborn vein disorders on your legs, you can use products, such as Veinuderm, which are specially formulated to defeat spider veins.

Homeopathy for Infertility in New York

By Irina Webster

Homeopathy is a growing field for infertility problems. More and more people everyday is looking for infertility help in homeopathy clinics. In New York the number of homeopathy clinics that work with infertile patients is increasing every month. And the reason for it is an increasing demand for homeopathic treatment among women looking to get pregnant.

Home Remedies For Better Health

According to the data from one survey in New York 64% of women prefer to see a homeopath or other natural health practitioner for their infertility problem first before they see a Gynecologist.

This data shows that women in New York have a lot of trust in homeopathic treatment regarding infertility concerns. They prefer to try alternative and natural treatment first and only if it does not work, they go for the more invasive treatment offered by modern medical practitioners.

So, what do women get when they go to homeopathic clinics? What kind of treatment do they offer? Is it helpful for specific forms of infertility only or many different causes?

After talking on the phone with one of a New York Homeopath I found out that homeopathy can be used for the treatment of a variety of infertility causes and it can be helpful for male and female types of infertility.

Homeopathy is an alternative form of infertility treatment and it is effective because it improves overall health, including reproductive health.

For female infertility, for example, the following remedies proved to be the most helpful:
Sepia 6c - this remedy is helpful to treat irregular or absent ovulation.
Aurum - this one is used when low sex drive and depression are the cause of infertility.
Sabina 6c -is helpful to treat recurrent miscarriage.
Phosphorus - for relieving anxiety and stress, which contribute to infertility problem.
Lycopodium - might be of help to women suffering from dry vagina or tenderness in their lower abdomen.

Silica - is good for improving overall health to increase your chances to get pregnant. Also it improves immune system for people who often get sick.
Viburnum opulus (30C) - can be very good for women with endometriosis to help them get pregnant.

Alternatively, you can use homeopathy for treatment of male infertility. The well known remedies are:
Medorrhinum - is used to treat impotence.
Sepia 6c - is used to improve low sex drive in men.
Agnus castus - is helpful if problems with impotence develop after a period of intense sexual activity for many years. Men who need agnus castus are normally very anxious about their health and loss of sexual abilities.
Calcarea 30c - helps to increase sperm count.
Lycopodium - helps with erection problems especially for men who worry a lot and have lack of self-confidence.

These are only a few homeopathic remedies which can be used for problems related to infertility. But it shows that homeopathy looks at the whole person and considers the cause of conception difficulties and treats that cause. It often removes the blocks to conception and leads the way to a healthy, natural pregnancy.

Homeopathic clinics in New York offer a great range of alternative treatments for infertility problems. Homeopathic remedies appeared to be very helpful and suit most people. The rule in homeopathy is to prescribe by symptoms rather than conditions, as each case of a particular illness can manifest differently in different people. This makes homeopathy stand out from all other infertility treatments and make it very popular amongst New York women.
