How to have younger looking hair

If the marketing department for Oil of Olay is to be believed their products are the secret of a “younger looking you”. That’s all good and well for skin care but what do you do if you want younger looking hair?

If your hair has started looking dull and frizzy or is turning grey and thinning into the bargain, take a look at our top tips for turning the clock back.
- Have a think about your hairstyle. Long hair, especially parted in the middle, can be aging, giving the effect of dragging your features down. There’s nothing wrong with long hair on women of a certain age – think how great Jerry Hall looks – but go for an asymmetrical shape which turns the eye away from the wrinkles. If you have long hair make sure you don’t allow it to dry out and become frizzy. Use a good conditioner every time you wash it.
- If you colour your hair take advice from your hairdresser as to the tones which will suit you. Don’t cling to your jet black colour but instead go for a shade or two lighter. On the other hand don’t go too light as this can make you look tired and washed out.
- If your hair is thinning, why not try some of the thickening products on the market such as Pantene Pro V Full and Thick Shampoo. Lab results show that products such as these really can thicken the diameter of strands of hair. Avoid at all costs things which will weaken the hair follicles such as over styling, using an excessively hot hairdryer, curling tongs or straighteners and screwing the hair back into a tight ponytail. If you are losing your hair at an alarming rate then seek medical advice as this can be a symptom of iron deficiency or thyroid problems.
